George Cruikshank's Table-book
A monthly comic miscellany of 1845, illustrated by George Cruikshank and edited by Gilbert Abbott à Beckett for the Punch Office in London, aimed at middle-class readers who bought humorous periodicals. The etchings and wood-engravings mix stage melodrama, tavern and courtroom scenes, giant disembodied hands and other visual puns, with loose scribbled hatching, blank backgrounds, and small vignettes usable as spot art.
