Geschichte der karolingischen Malerei : ihr Bilderkreis and seine Quellen
A German art-historical study of Carolingian painting by Franz Friedrich Leitschuh, published in Berlin by G. Siemens in 1894 for scholars of medieval manuscripts. Line engravings copy initials and miniatures from ninth-century codices: inhabited letters filled with vine scrolls, roundels of animals and labours, small figure scenes of builders and enthroned rulers, and a foliate cross drawn in flat grey wash, all usable as decorative letterforms and border motifs.
