A German edition of Auguste Racinet's chronological history of costume, edited by Adolf Rosenberg and published by Wasmuth in Berlin in 1888, issued as a reference set for artists, designers, and theatrical costumers. The chromolithographed plates array standing figures of European regional dress against blank grounds, front and back views grouped by province, giving flat colour blocks, printed skirt borders, embroidered aprons, and a range of caps, bonnets, and headscarves.
