Gessner : der Meister der Idylle
A German monograph on the Swiss idyll poet, painter and etcher Salomon Gessner, written by Paul Ferdinand Schmidt and published by Delphin in Munich in 1921 for art historians and collectors. The plates reproduce Gessner's etchings and paintings as line work and dark halftones: dense masses of foliage, rocky banks, ruined arches and small nude bathers or shepherds tucked into pastoral clearings, useful for wooded-landscape texture, layered tree silhouettes and heavy tonal backdrops.
