Gleanings of antiquities
A 1724 London antiquarian treatise by John Beaumont, printed for W. Taylor, collecting speculations on creation, the Deluge, oracles and occult lore for learned readers. Its plates are typographic ornament rather than illustration: woodcut initial letters set in floral and scrollwork frames, and headpiece bands with an eagle flanked by fruit baskets and acanthus, usable as borders, drop caps and dividers.
