Godey's lady's book
Godey's Lady's Book was a monthly women's magazine issued by Louis A. Godey in Philadelphia from 1830, mixing fiction, poetry and needlework with fashion plates for middle-class American readers; these cuts come from the 1840 volumes. The wood engravings show capes, collars, bodices and trimmed skirts rendered in fine parallel hatching, alongside looping braid and embroidery patterns drawn as bare outline, useful as garment silhouettes, textile motifs and continuous border rules.
