Godey's lady's book
Godey's Lady's Book was a monthly magazine of fiction, verse and fashion published by Louis A. Godey in Philadelphia from 1830, aimed at middle-class American women. The wood engravings isolate garments and accessories — bonnets, ruffled cuffs, lace collars, braided coiffures — in crisp outline with hatched shading, useful as period costume detail or as small spot ornaments.
