Godey's Lady's Book, the monthly magazine of fashion, fiction and handwork issued by Louis A. Godey in Philadelphia from 1830 and read by middle-class American women. The plates mix wood-engraved garments and accessories rendered in fine hatching with outline needlework patterns \u2014 looping braid scrolls, interlaced strapwork and sprigs of berries and leaves \u2014 usable as monoline borders, repeat motifs and period costume reference.
