Godey's lady's book
Godey's Lady's Book was a monthly magazine issued by Louis A. Godey in Philadelphia from 1830 onward, carrying fiction, essays, and fashion plates for American middle-class women readers. The 1840 wood engravings show coiffures from behind, off-shoulder bodices with pleated trim, and full-skirted day dresses, giving designers hatched textile patterns, hair and lace detail, and garment silhouettes.
