The golden bough : a study in magic and religion
James George Frazer's one-volume abridgement of The Golden Bough, a comparative study of magic, myth and religion, issued by Macmillan in London in 1922 for general and scholarly readers. The plates are few: a frontispiece halftone after Turner's painting of Lake Nemi with figures among trees and ruins, and an engraved armorial bookplate with helm, stag crest, acanthus mantling and motto scroll — usable as heraldic line art and as a moody landscape vignette.
