Gordon Craig's book of penny toys
Edward Gordon Craig's private-press album of penny toys, printed at the Sign of the Rose in Hackbridge, Surrey, in 1899 and sold in London to collectors of fine printing. Each plate isolates a cheap tin or wooden toy — jointed acrobat, windmill cart, climbing figure — as heavy black outline within a thick ruled border, some flatly coloured in red, green and yellow.
