Gothic architecture
A pattern book of Gothic designs by Batty Langley, first issued in 1742 and reprinted in London by I. & J. Taylor for builders, joiners and country-house clients wanting medieval forms drawn to fixed proportions. Copperplate elevations of doors, windows and arches sit above their ground plans, each keyed with letters, setting-out lines and scales, and shaded so the opening reads as a solid black panel against fine hatching.
