Gotische Plastik in den Rheinlanden
A German art-historical survey of Gothic sculpture in the Rhineland, written by Eugen Lüthgen and published by F. Cohen in Bonn in 1921 for scholars and students of medieval art. The 77 halftone plates photograph carved stone and wood figures against black grounds — standing Virgin and Child groups, seated Pietàs with emaciated bodies, and close crops of heads — giving designers isolated silhouettes, deep drapery folds, and strong tonal contrast for cutouts and monochrome layouts.
