Emblemata Florentii Schoonhovii I.C. Goudani, partim moralia, partim etiam civilia. Cum latiori eorundem ejusdem auctoris interpretatione. Accedunt et alia quaedam poëmatia in alijs poëmatum suorum libris non contenta
A Latin emblem book of moral and civil devices by the Gouda jurist Florens Schoonhoven, published at Gouda by Andreas Burier in 1618 with engravings attributed to Crispijn van de Passe, addressed to educated readers of emblem literature. The 81 small horizontal plates set one or two figures in wooded landscapes with rocky slopes, cottages, and water, each acting out a proverb — handing over a book, walking past a group in the trees, a corpse pecked by a bird, a traveller at a cave door — offering compact figure-in-landscape vignettes, foliage borders, and fine engraved hatching for skies and rock.
