A 1658 London treatise on drawing and painting by Sir William Sanderson, printed for Robert Crofts with engraved plates by William Faithorne, addressed to gentlemen amateurs and practising limners. The pictures here are letterpress ornament: a foliate woodcut initial I and repeated headpiece bands of scrolling acanthus, blossoms and grotesque birds, usable as rules, borders and drop caps.
