The great New York
A portfolio of Joseph Pennell's etchings of New York, issued by Foulis in London for print collectors and admirers of the American skyscraper city. The plates work in dense drypoint hatching and smoky plate tone: canyon streets seen from pavement level, towers half-dissolved in steam and cloud, harbour skylines above tugboats, with crowds reduced to flecks—useful for high-contrast cityscape silhouettes, textured skies, and dramatic vertical framing.
