The great painter-etchers from Rembrandt to Whistler
A 1914 survey of etching from Rembrandt to Whistler, written by Malcolm C. Salaman and edited by Charles Holme for "The Studio" in London and New York, aimed at collectors, students and print amateurs. The 222 plates reproduce etchings and drypoints in line and open tone: riverbanks, trees, cottages, church towers, figures at water's edge, with loose hatching, blank paper skies and heavy drypoint burr useful for texture fills, line-work studies and monochrome landscape motifs.
