Great pictures as moral teachers
An American volume on art and morals by Henry Ezekiel Jackson, published in Philadelphia by John C. Winston in 1910 for general and Sunday-school readers. The eighteen halftone plates reproduce nineteenth-century paintings and relief sculpture — peasants with faggots, draped allegorical angels, classical interiors — in soft grey tones useful as ready-made figure groups, drapery studies, and muted photographic backgrounds.
