Vita del cavalier Gio. Lorenzo Bernino
Domenico Bernini's life of his father, the sculptor and architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini, printed in Rome in 1713 at the expense of Rocco Bernabò, with an engraved portrait by Arnold van Westerhout after Giovanni Battista Gaulli, for readers of artists' biographies. Apart from the portrait plate, the illustration is printers' ornament: heavy black woodcut initials set in squares of lilies and curling leaf, interlaced knotwork headbands, and acanthus tailpieces gathered under a coronet, usable as drop caps, rules and section breaks.
