Astronomie
Joseph Jérôme Le Français de Lalande's Astronomie, a multi-volume technical treatise on astronomy printed in Paris in 1771 for astronomers, surveyors and students of mathematics. The plates are engraved diagram sheets that crowd dozens of numbered figures onto a page — lettered circles, ellipses and orbital paths, triangles and tangent lines, cones and spheres, a fan-shaped table of latitude scales, and a place-name diagram of survey sightlines between French towns — offering line-only geometry, alphabetic labelling and dense figure grids.
