Modern paintings by German and Austrian masters
A 1916 New York catalogue, printed by the DeVinne Press, of the modern German and Austrian paintings owned by conductor Josef Stransky, made for collectors, dealers and museum readers. The 67 plates are dark halftone reproductions of oil paintings — rows of trees against open sky, wooded riverbanks, sea and shore, small silhouetted figures — usable as soft-edged tonal grounds, silhouette tree masses and grainy monochrome textures.
