A catalogue of the paintings in the Palais Royal collection with biographies of the painters, written by Louis-François Dubois de Saint-Gelais and printed in Paris by D'Houry in 1727 for the duc d'Orléans and the connoisseurs of his circle. The plates here are letterpress ornaments rather than reproductions: small woodcut tailpieces built from fruit-and-flower baskets, fluted urns, bead-and-tassel drops and symmetrical acanthus scrolls, useful as vignettes, section breaks and repeatable border units.
