A new history of painting in Italy, from the II to the XVI century;

Crowe, J. A. (Joseph Archer), 1825-1896, Cavalcaselle, G. B. (Giovanni Battista), 1820-1897, Hutton, Edward, 1875-1969 · 1908 · London, J. M. Dent; New York, E. P. Dutton · 58 pictures

A scholarly survey of Italian painting from the second to the sixteenth century by Crowe and Cavalcaselle, revised by Edward Hutton and issued by Dent in London and Dutton in New York in 1908 for art historians and students. The plates are grey halftones of frescoes and panel paintings tipped sideways on the page, each with artist, subject, and church or gallery set in small caps, giving designers haloed Madonnas, crowded biblical scenes, and painted architectural frames.
