A new history of painting in Italy, from the II to the XVI century;
A survey history of Italian painting from the second to the sixteenth century by Crowe and Cavalcaselle, re-edited by Edward Hutton and issued in London and New York in 1908 for students, collectors and museum visitors. The plates are halftone photographs of panel paintings and frescoes—altarpieces with saints ranged in arched compartments, Annunciations, Nativities and Adorations—reproducing early Italian composition, drapery and architectural settings for reuse as figure groups or period backgrounds.
