A French manual on pictorial photography by Frédéric Dillaye, published in Paris by the Librairie Illustrée in 1896 for amateurs working with gelatin silver bromide plates. Halftone plates reproduce soft-focus landscapes, harbours, herds on open ground and sunlit water, printed in grainy grey-brown ink with wide skies and heavy tonal masses useful as atmospheric backgrounds and texture.
