A French Art Nouveau design manual by Maurice Pillard Verneuil, published in Paris in 1914 to teach craftsmen and art students how to convert plant forms into motifs for wallpaper, textiles, ceramics, marquetry, ironwork, bookbinding, lace, stained glass and jewellery. The plates are flat stencil-coloured studies in two or three tones — ivy lock plates, fig-leaf carpet borders, corner ornaments and repeating tile squares — usable as ready-made pattern tiles, border units and botanical silhouettes.
