The Anonimo; notes on pictures and works of art in Italy

Michiel, Marcantonio, 1486?-1552, Williamson, George Charles, 1858-1942, Mussi, Paolo, Morelli, Jacopo, 1745-1819 · 1903 · London, G. Bell and sons · 26 pictures

Marcantonio Michiel's early sixteenth-century notebook on pictures and works of art in Venetian and north Italian collections, translated by Paolo Mussi and edited by George C. Williamson, published in London by G. Bell and Sons in 1903 for art historians and collectors. The 32 plates are halftone photographic reproductions after Anderson and Hanfstaengl of Renaissance paintings and carved reliefs — Titian's Padua miracle scenes, Giorgione's shadowed landscapes, Madonna groups — with soft grey tonal range, heavy dark masses and small caption lines set above and beside each image.
