Church embroidery, ancient and modern

Dolby, Anastasia, d. 1873 · 1867 · London, Chapman and Hall · 44 pictures

A practical handbook on ecclesiastical needlework by Anastasia Dolby, published in London by Chapman and Hall in 1867 for church embroiderers, altar guilds and Gothic Revival designers. The plates are fine outline engravings of sacred monograms, crosses, foliate borders and altar frontals, drawn flat and uncoloured as working patterns, giving designers ready line motifs, repeating strip ornament and framed panel layouts.
