Handbook of painting. The German, Flemish, and Dutch schools
An English art-history handbook of the German, Flemish, and Dutch schools, written by Franz Kugler and revised by Gustav Waagen, published by John Murray in London in 1860 for students, collectors, and travellers visiting continental galleries. The plates are fine outline engravings after altarpieces and frescoes, showing panelled multi-scene layouts, haloed saints, crowded processions and interiors rendered in pure contour without shading, useful as line stock for religious figures, drapery patterns, and grid-divided compositions.
