The early Flemish painters; notices of their lives and works
An art-historical survey of the early Netherlandish painters by Joseph Archer Crowe and Giovanni Battista Cavalcaselle, published by John Murray in London in 1872 for collectors, curators and students of painting. The plates are thin outline engravings that reduce altarpieces and polyptych wings to line, laying out compartments of the Ghent Altarpiece, Last Judgment scenes and processions of robed figures, angels and horsemen—useful as clean medieval figure outlines, panel grids and diagrammatic layouts of multi-part compositions.
