Military and religious life in the Middle Ages and at the period of the Renaissance
An illustrated survey of medieval and Renaissance military and religious life, compiled by the French antiquarian Paul Lacroix (writing as P. L. Jacob) and published in London by Bickers & Son in 1870 for general readers and students of costume and custom. The wood engravings copy illuminated manuscripts, tomb brasses and miniatures: deathbed and coronation scenes, processions of bishops and monks, walled cities, and patterned borders with heraldic shields, useful for period costume, ecclesiastical dress and decorative frames.
