A catalogue of engravers, who have been born, or resided in England
Horace Walpole's biographical dictionary of engravers working in England, compiled from George Vertue's notebooks and reissued in London in 1794 by J. Moore for a trade of print collectors, dealers and antiquaries. The plates are copperplate portraits of engravers, mostly head-and-shoulders in oval or rectangular frames with engraved lettering below, here often seen as faint offset show-through on blank facing leaves, giving both crisp linework and ghosted, foxed paper textures.
