A French translation of Jonathan Richardson's essays on the theory of painting and on connoisseurship, issued by Herman Uytwerf in Amsterdam in 1728 for collectors, amateurs and critics of art. The indexed images are not subject plates but book fabric: a worn red cloth cover, blank fly-leaves with foxing and water stains, and a title page showing faintly through paper, useful as textures, backgrounds and aged-paper overlays.
