Icones imperatorum romanorum : ex priscis numismatibus ad viuum delineatae, & breui narratione historicâ
A numismatic history of the Roman emperors, first compiled by Hubert Goltzius and reissued in 1645 by the Plantin-Moretus press in Antwerp with plates engraved by Cornelis Galle and a title design by Rubens, for antiquarians and coin collectors. The plates are circular medallion portraits in profile, printed in ochre over black line, each ringed by its Latin legend in capitals, offering designers ready-made roundel frames, laurel and diadem headdresses, drapery and cuirass detail, and letterforms set on a curve.
