Traité de mécanique céleste
Laplace's multi-volume treatise on celestial mechanics, printed by Crapelet for the Paris booksellers Duprat and Courcier from 1798, addressed to astronomers and mathematicians. The pages are almost entirely typeset mathematics — stacked differential expressions, fraction bars, bracketed derivatives and trigonometric terms — alongside plain letterpress title pages and a gilt-ruled calf binding useful as texture or abstract pattern.
