Allard, Abraham, ca. 1676-1725 · 1713 · t'Amsterdam : By A. Allard ... · 20 pictures

A bilingual Dutch and French costume series of Dutch villagers and peasants, engraved and published by Abraham Allard in Amsterdam in 1713 for buyers of collectable dress and manners prints. The plates show pairs and small groups of standing figures in regional clothing, some with baskets, tools, or livestock, set on bare ground with a low horizon and captions beneath; the scans include blank versos where the engraving shows faintly through the laid paper, giving usable ghost-image silhouettes and paper texture.
