Giovanni Francesco Trotti's 1761 study of ancient siegecraft and fortification defence, printed in Parma by Filippo Carmignani for antiquarians and military scholars reading Latin inscriptions. The pictures are typographic ornament rather than subject matter: woodcut headpieces of scrolling acanthus, small floral tailpieces, decorated initials, and pages of transcribed inscriptions set as ruled columns of abbreviated capitals.
