A volume of social caricature by the French illustrator Bertall, published in Paris by E. Plon in 1876, following bourgeois Parisians through winter, spring, summer and autumn outside the home for a general readership amused by its own manners. The 494 pen sketches are loose, unshaded line drawings of crowds, promenades, theatre boxes and railway carriages, with bustled dresses, top hats and bowlers noted in a few strokes, useful for period costume silhouettes, crowd groupings and quick figure line work.
