A four-volume antiquarian survey of Scottish castles, abbeys and churches drawn and engraved by Robert William Billings, published for subscribers in London from 1845 to 1852. Steel engravings show ruined naves, vaulted interiors, gatehouses and cliff-top keeps in fine grey line, with strong tonal contrast, weather-stained masonry detail and small figures giving scale.
