Aedes Walpolianae, or, A description of the collection of pictures at Houghton-Hall in Norfolk, the seat of the Right Honourable Sir Robert Walpole, Earl of Orford
Horace Walpole's catalogue of his father Sir Robert Walpole's paintings at Houghton Hall, printed in London in 1767 for collectors and connoisseurs, with a sermon on painting appended and engraved ornament after George Vertue. The plates mix an architectural elevation of the house with woodcut and engraved headpieces and tailpieces: symmetrical foliate scrollwork, seated allegorical figures flanking oval cartouches, putti, flaming urns and a radiant Apollo with lyre, useful as rules, frames and small spot ornaments.
