Ammiani Marcellini Rerum gestarum qui de XXXI supersunt, libri XVIII
A 1693 Leiden edition of Ammianus Marcellinus's surviving books of the Res Gestae, edited by Friedrich Lindenbrog with Henri and Adrien de Valois and printed by Pieter van der Aa for classical scholars. The plates are line-engraved coin faces: late Roman emperors in profile bust, diademed or laurelled, ringed by inscribed legends and double circles, with small numerals beside each — useful for medallion frames, lettering set on a curve, and stipple-and-hatch portrait heads.
