Joseph Jérôme Le Français de Lalande's Astronomie, a multi-volume technical treatise on astronomy issued in Paris in 1771 by the widow Desaint for astronomers, surveyors and mathematics students. The engraved plates are numbered figure groups in fine line: circles and ellipses crossed by chords and lettered axes, a fanned semicircular protractor diagram, and a vertical tide scale with engraved captions, usable as geometric ornament, chart framing or diagram lettering.
