Belgische Kunst des 19. Jahrhunderts
A German-language survey of nineteenth-century Belgian painting and sculpture written by the Brussels art historian Henri Hymans and issued by E.A. Seemann in Leipzig in 1906 for German art students, collectors and libraries. The 183 plates are halftone reproductions of paintings and statues: lamp-lit studio and church interiors, history subjects in sixteenth-century dress, and marble figures shot against black, giving designers deep-shadowed tonal fields, crowded costume groupings and isolated sculptural silhouettes.
