A treatise on optics
David Brewster's textbook on optics, issued in 1839 by Lea and Blanchard of Philadelphia in an American edition annotated by Alexander Dallas Bache, for students and general readers. The wood-engraved figures plot ray paths through lenses, prisms and mirrors as fans of fine lines, with lettered points, dashed construction arcs and dense hatching marking glass and solid bodies.
