Dialogo di pittvra
Paolo Pino's Dialogo di pittura, a dialogue on the art of painting printed in Venice by Pauolo Gherardo in 1548 for painters, patrons and literate readers of the Italian art debate. The illustrations are small woodcuts: historiated initials holding winged and draped figures set in hatched landscapes, a solfeggio note-name key beside a letter B, and an ecclesiastical coat of arms with lamb, star and tasselled hat, useful as drop caps, printer's ornament and heraldic stock.
