L'optique des couleurs : fondée sur les simples observations, & tournée sur-tout à la pratique de la peinture, de la teinture, & des autres arts coloristes
A 1740 Paris treatise on color by the Jesuit mathematician Louis-Bertrand Castel, published by Briasson for painters, dyers and other practitioners of the coloring trades. The plates in the index are the book's letterpress ornaments: small woodcut headpieces and tailpieces built from C-scrolls, crosshatched shield fields, pendant tassels and a rayed central disc, usable as rules, dividers, frames and cartouche blanks.
