A practical essay on the art of colouring and painting landscapes in water colours : with ten illustrative engravings
A drawing manual on watercolour landscape technique written by John Heaviside Clark, with plates engraved by J. R. Hamble, published in London and Derby in 1836 for amateur painters and drawing students buying from print and artists' colour sellers. The ten illustrative engravings show the same landscape compositions carried through successive stages of washing and tinting, and many scanned leaves are blanks and tissues carrying faint offset ghosts of the plates opposite trees, skies, water and distant hills reduced to flat graded washes useful as tonal templates or soft background textures.
