The theory of colouring : being an analysis of the principles of contrast and harmony in the arrangement of colours : with their application to the study of nature, and hints on the composition of pictures, etc.
A short manual on colour contrast and harmony by J. Bacon, issued in London in 1872 by the artists' colourman Geo. Rowney & Co. for amateur painters and art students. Wood-engraved diagrams show sketching boards, strapped portfolios, hinged paint boxes with pigment cakes and panelled drawing boards, drawn in fine parallel hatching with hard cast shadows — usable as small tool vignettes or line-texture studies.
