An 1838 London treatise by John Howard Kyan arguing that light's elements are identical with those of matter, illustrated by George Field and engraved by David Lucas and Edmund Turrell for scientific readers. The plates show optical and electrical apparatus in fine-line engraving: prism benches, a tripod-mounted tube, wedge-shaped scales and a lion-masked pedestal case, all lettered for reference and usable as instrument silhouettes or hatched shading models.
