Lodovico Dolce's dialogue on the qualities, varieties and symbolism of colours, printed in Venice by the Sessa brothers in 1565 for humanist and courtly readers. The woodcuts are printer's ornaments: inhabited initials with foliage, lizards and small nude figures, a hatched vignette of Pegasus in a strapwork cartouche, and narrow tailpieces with masks and scrollwork.
